Conservation Working Party – November

Sunday November 17, 2019 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

Please join our FOFH conservation working party in the woods.

Our medium term aim is to work in one small area to create more light as this will increase
biodiversity. We are removing the invasive ground cover which is mainly holly and sycamore and
using this to create a dead hedge. Dead hedges encourage a greater variety of wildlife and make use
of the scrub we have cleared. Most of the larger dead wood will be left unless it is impeding the
growth of neighbouring trees. Dead standing wood that is not dangerous will also be left as this is a
valuable habitat.

Our sessions will begin with introductions and a short health and safety briefing
We will provide traditional woodland hand tools and instruction will be given. Everyone is
encouraged to work within their capabilities and there will be a mixture of jobs.

Halfway through we will stop for a short break and you are encouraged to ask at any time if you
have questions about the tools or the work you are doing.

You will need sturdy shoes, warm waterproof clothing, gardening gloves and something to drink – a flask of something hot is ideal for the winter months.

If you’re thinking of attending, or would like more information please let us know by sending an email to events@friendsoffoxhill.org
