Please follow this link to find out what we'll be up to and how to register - Friends of Fox Hill Event. It is important to register by email as there is information we need to send to you, and it helps us to plan the tasks accordingly.
We also have the dates for all our conservation sessions to the end of the year. Please see our Events calendar for details.

Scouts Plant Bluebells in Fox Hill Woods
Fox Hill Woods had a busy start to October. Over the first weekend we welcomed two Scout groups from across Wokingham Borough: 1st Woosehill Cubs on one day and 3rd Wokingham Beavers the next. Between them, the young volunteers planted 290 native bluebell bulbs.
On your next walk you may notice patches of freshly turned earth close to the paths, or a blue marker on a tree guard indicating where bulbs have gone in. We're looking forward to seeing the first green shoots come through in spring.
A big thank you to both groups for their hard work and enthusiasm. Photos and a fuller report will be online soon.

Hazel Coppicing: See the Regrowth
You may remember our post from early 2025 (“Mom, what’s the big basket for?”) with photos of the hazel coppicing work in the woods. Coppicing means cutting hazel back to ground level so it sends up fresh new stems. It's a traditional woodland technique, and it lets more light reach the woodland floor.
To show how quickly hazel bounces back, here are two photos of the same spot. The first was taken just after cutting in January 2025, and the second in September 2026. In under two years the stools have put up a thick crop of new growth.
