Dear friend,
Would you like to see continuing improvements in Fox Hill?
If you’ve visited Fox Hill recently, you will surely have noticed the impact that our Working Party is having on the condition and health of our beloved woodlands. However, even though Friends of Fox Hill is made up entirely of unpaid volunteers, it might surprise you to learn that it costs close to £500 per year simply to keep the group running. Those costs include Public Liability Insurance, website costs, room rental for our AGM, not to mention the costs of providing and maintaining hand tools for the conservation work. And of course, any additional activities also require funding.
Currently, our team is ...
  • Improving pathways and drainage. (You can now walk the entire length of the woods from Kent Close to Limmerhill with dry feet, even in wet weather!)

  • Removing invasive species and creating space for indigenous flora and fauna
  • Removing litter and rubbish to create a more pleasant and safer environment for everyone to enjoy.
Additionally, because we have developed such a positive working relationship with the local council, WBC is taking even more of a hands-on interest in the woods. On top of our regular conservation work, our volunteers plan to make additional improvements. Over the next 12 months we hope to:

  • Plant hundreds of bee-friendly wildflowers from thirteen species, including English bluebells wild garlic, wood sorrel, honeysuckle and Foxgloves.
  • Protect new saplings to help replace the many mature trees lost in the recent storms.
  • Replace and update the unsightly existing signage.
  • Encourage safe environments for birds and bats.
  • Make our work as effective as possible by providing conservation training for volunteers.
  • Hold additional public events with guest speakers from the conservation community.
Of course, this will all require additional resources. So, this is where we would like to ask for your help.

A small regular donation from just £2 to £5 per month would help to ensure that the improvements that we've all benefitted from can continue. And, of course, the more people who support us, the greater impact our work will have. If you're unable to make a regular contribution, a single one-off payment would also be gratefully received.

If you can support us, please follow the instructions below. And why not do it right now, while it's fresh in your mind? We all know how easy it is for good intentions to get forgotten once they're out of mind. How to donate:
  1. Set up a regular standing order with your bank to Friends of Fox Hill. Our bank details are Lloyds Bank - Sort Code: 309090 - Account Number: 33478560
  2. Send a cheque to our treasurer, John Arnold at Swift Close, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG41 3SF.
Our accounts are independently audited and, of course, we will provide regular updates of our work via email, on our website, and on Facebook.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope that you will be able to support our work.

With kind regards

Simon
