Conservation Working Party Dec 2020

Sunday December 13, 2020 @ 10:00 am 1:00 pm

It is with great pleasure that Friends of Fox Hill can announce that Wokingham Borough Council has given us planning permission to perform conservation activities within Fox Hill woods. Please join us to give the woods some much needed love and attention.

The session will involve a variety of activities:

  • Cut back an area of rhododendron to ground level creating more light to the forest floor. The purpose of this is to create more biodiversity in the woodland. The brash removed will be used to create dead hedging, a valuable wildlife habitat, and the larger branches will be used to improve pathways.
  • Plant native bluebells in the area already cleared
  • Create log stacks, and remove the dead wood resting on healthy trees.
  • Add brash covers to younger saplings to protect from feeding deer.

No prior knowledge is necessary as instruction will be given at the start of the session.

Meet at the Dorset Way entrance, opposite Heron Park. Please wear suitable footwear, strong gloves and bring your own tools if you have them. Useful tools are loppers, secateurs, pruning saws and bow saws.

We’d love you to come and join us! The session is open to anyone sixteen or over, but due to COVID19 our numbers are restricted, and pre-registration of your interest is required. Please register your interest by emailing events@friendsoffoxhill.org to ensure we have enough places available. You will then be sent the associated risk assessment.

We look forward to seeing you.
