Please join us to give the woods some much needed love and attention. \n\n\n\nThe session will involve a variety of activities: \n\n\n\nCut back an area of rhododendron to ground level creating more light to the forest floor. The purpose of this is to create more biodiversity in the woodland. The brash removed will be used to create dead hedging\, a valuable wildlife habitat\, and the larger branches will be used to improve pathways.Plant native bluebells in the area already clearedCreate log stacks\, and remove the dead wood resting on healthy trees.Add brash covers to younger saplings to protect from feeding deer.\n\n\n\nNo prior knowledge is necessary as instruction will be given at the start of the session. \n\n\n\nMeet at the Dorset Way entrance\, opposite Heron Park. We are removing the invasive ground cover which is mainly holly and sycamore andusing this to create a dead hedge. Dead hedges encourage a greater variety of wildlife and make useof the scrub we have cleared. Most of the larger dead wood will be left unless it is impeding thegrowth of neighbouring trees. Dead standing wood that is not dangerous will also be left as this is avaluable habitat. \nOur sessions will begin with introductions and a short health and safety briefingWe will provide traditional woodland hand tools and instruction will be given.
